People said..if you go to Malacca, you have to try their asam pedas...isn't it..

Therefore, during our recent visit to Malacca....we did try their authentic asam pedas at a 1-storey-terrace-house-turn-restaurant at the junction after ING building and Public Bank, towards the Banda Hilir..why? because a few people that we asked said that is the best in town and they also served other masakan kampung...

And it was true to the recommendation...we have asam pedas ikan kembung, asam pedas ikan pari, ulam-ulaman, telur goreng, hati lembu masak kicap, telur masin, air mata kucing, air sirap bandung, air milo ais, air kosong and 5 plates of nasi ye..total was RM24...giles marveles kan harga tu...and memang menyelerakan though the place is not so cosy, what's more the weather was really hot that day...but sorry friends, forgot to take picture...tak sedar diri dah tengok makanan masa tu..

What I noticed in the asam pedas is there were daun limau purut and daun kesom or bunga kantan was no where in the soup..the soup was so thick..like curry and u can actually dip it with bread tau..so I thought, maybe they blend all the daun kesom and bunga kantan together with bawang everything..and last night, in my own attempt to cook authentic Melaka asam pedas, that's exactly what I did..I blend everything before putting it into the water to boil..I used salmon head (I bought 3 pieces of it last time, still have 1 more in the fridge..with RM7.90 per kg, mau I tak memborong) and I fried that head slightly (petua chef Istana Hotel tu)..

And how does it turn out...my hubby (forever be my critic) said that it taste better than my usual way of cooking asam pedas..but I was not happy as the soup didn't turn out as it was in Melaka..it does not thicken though I let it simmer for a very long time...geram tul lah..

so where do I go wrong? anybody know the answer...please tell me...

and this is the picture of that asam pedas..note the soup tu mcm tomyam aje..

And these were the other food I cooked last nite...
